The friends and family of Jack and Helle Berry come together to help raise money for a handicap accessible vehicle as Jack faces ALS.

Jack was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease, on July 6, 2011. The diagnosis was confirmed by a neurologist on August 10.

ALS is a disease that damages the connection between the brain and the muscles. The nerves responsible for coordinating how the muscles function die. Consequently, the muscles become progressively weaker and deteriorate. The disease affects the muscles in the legs, arms, mouth and throat. People with ALS (PALS) ultimately become paralyzed. The average life expectancy is 2 to 5 years.

For Jack, the disease is progressing rapidly. His arms, legs, and breathing are already affected.

A group of volunteers are putting in a wheelchair ramp to Jack and Helle's house. Next, Jack will need a handicap-accessible van, as it is being increasingly difficult and unsafe for Helle to transfer him from the wheelchair to the car seat.

Money raised will be used for the purchase or rental of a handicap-accessible vehicle. Any additional money raised will be used for other accessibility equipment, medical expenses, or in-home care to assist Helle with her overwhelming job as Jack's full-time caregiver.

Let's come together to show the Berrys our love and support during this difficult journey.

*Donations can also be mailed directly to Jack and Helle.
