Miss Lily has been diagnosed with a potentially fatal swallowing disorder. The funds will be used for her upcoming cricopharyngeal surgery.

Lilliput is a 6 month old Dachshund mix, recently adopted from the SPCA. She was diagnosed with cricopharyngeal dysfunction, a congenital defect in her throat muscles that prevents food and water to be swallowed into her esophagus properly. The opening in her throat to take food into the esophagus is just a few millimeters wide, causing food and water to enter her trachea and lungs.

Lily has been a trooper through the last few weeks of treatment and diagnosis. She's spent nearly half of her days since coming home at vet hospitals, but is still wagging her tail and rolling over for tummy rubs. She's the sweetest little lady, and got high accolades at the hospital for her good behavior--they said she was the best patient this month! Lily has quickly made her way into our hearts, and we want to provide her with the treatment she needs and deserves.

Without treatment, Lily's condition is fatal. She will continue to choke on food and struggle to keep down water. Lily will continue to lose weight and eventually die of starvation. Moreover, the disorder has already led to aspiration pneumonia, a life-threatening inflammation of the lungs and airways caused by bacterial infection. Lily recently spent 4 days in the ICU to stabilize the pneumonia, racking up a $3,500 vet bill. The surgery needed to correct her condition is an additional $4,000, so I am reaching out for help to give Lily a healthy and long life.

UPDATE 3/18: Lily's surgery has been pushed back from the original timeline we were given by UC Davis. We had hoped that her surgery would have been completed last week, but because of the specialized nature of her throat surgery, it will be at least another 4 to 6 weeks. Unfortunately, what this translates to is many more expensive veterinary visits to manage her condition than I had anticipated (I've put another $5,000 on credit cards since the last update), more of my time going to caring for her than I had anticipated, and a longer wait period before I can get back to full-time freelancing than I had hoped. We appreciate your understanding why I pushed back the end date and bumped up the amount we're trying to raise.
