Fund to raise money for materials, surgery and post-op care for spinal surgery for Pedro Jimenez who suffered an accident.

Pedro is 22. He is a kind, hard working young man who landscapes my backyard and does some occasional maintenance work in my house. I am an American living in Mexico.

Pedro had an accident on Sept. 8th and fractured his spine. He is now in a government hospital here in Mexico and the public insurance he has now says they do not cover anything for his type of lesion!!!!

They have moved him from Cuernavaca to Mexico City, after two weeks of going untreated.  He will have to come up with the money now not just for the material for his surgery which includes titanium plates and screws, but for the surgery, hospitalization and meds as well.  He has been in pain and inmobile since his accident.  Conditions in public hospitals are depressing, to say the least. The family must do all the nursing and have had to rent a room in the city.  His parents are rural folk from the mountains of Guerrero, and very poor.

The public hospitals here in Mexico are terribly understaffed and broke. Much of it is due to faulty administration and corruption, but that's another story. People routinely die from neglect. We're hoping to get funding for the surgical equipment, hospital expenses (tests, ambulance transportation) post-op medicines and treatment.

Please let's help Pedro get his surgery and on his way to recovery. Your prayers are much appreciated as well.

For any questions, please call me at 215-853-8243. I have posted myself as beneficiary since Pedro does not have a bank account (in Mexico or the US). You can rest assured that he will receive all the help given. If you prefer to send a check directly to my account, please make it out to Maria Garaitonandia, Bank of America, 890 S. Valley Forge Rd., Lansdale, PA 19446 and on the back please write for deposit only acct. 383008858670 and write Pedro's back in the memo bar. Thank you again.
