Help support the Sheaffer's after a heart transplant left them paralyzed physically & financially. Any and all means of support welcome!

In 2007 after recieving his LVAD (left ventricular assisted device) Christopher Sheaffer was placed on the heart transplant list where he would remain waiting for 3 years. In that time he endured many complications due to surgeries, medications, physical limitations, and long stays at Strong Memorial hospital which is an hour and half from home. This required the assistance of his wife Lynn Sheaffer and family to care for him. This meant missing work, long drives to and from the hospital, not to mention the 3 years of mental and emotional stress endured from the constant waiting for that fateful phone call that came only a few times in 3 years, most of which were hearts that were determined as being not compatible or healthy enough.
After the long, exhausting years of constant infections, surgeries, and being taken on and off the list many times, a call came for a heart and it looked good! The surgery went well and recovery began. But shortly after the complications began. Chris was experiencing extreme blood loss,(he required over 200 units of blood products), he also experienced kidney failure, and the new heart was not adjusting well to its new body. He has been on a respirator, 2 VADS, 6 chest tubes, and has now found out that he is permanently paralyzed from the waist down due to the massive blood loss and resulting spinal cord stroke.
Chris is just beginning his long term recovery process but requires round the clock care for dressing changes, meds, and cleaning, feeding, turning etc. Any slight infections could be fatal due to lack of immunity. If and when he is released to go home there will be many new adjustments and newer, larger and unforeseen expenses to deal with.
This long process has been extremely taxing on the whole family. Complications of this magnitude were unimaginable and impossible to prepare for. My mother works full time to try to cover the costs she is going to incur but at this point there is no way to tell how much this will cost in the long run, what we do know is the most expensive costs aren't covered by insurance, such as all the construction needed to the home and property to accommodate a wheelchair. Other costs will include In-home care, a vehicle for transportation, medications, wheelchair, etc.
The Sheaffer family accepts and welcomes any any all forms of support; donations, supplies, meals, cleaning, yard work, labor, emotional and financial support, etc. Anything you think you can contribute is appreciated and welcomed. This is a wonderful family with lots of love to give back. Chris and Lynn continue to stay strong and keep a positive outlook despite the hardships they have faced, so please keep the family in your prayers, they haven gotten us this far!
