Cathy's friends are uniting to raise money to help with the expense related to her upcoming live kidney transplant. Please show your support!

I know it sounds like a cliché, but to know Cathy Cook is to love her…

This is a woman of unwavering faith, unstoppable energy, an amazing sense of humor and determination. Cathy lights up a room and has an uncanny knack of making you feel like a million dollars, even though you might be having the worst day. She is truly a blessing to those who know her.

Sadly, Cathy is in the last stages of kidney failure, and has been fighting a dangerous battle for the past 3 years. She never complains, always has a smile and has shown incredible courage and dignity. Through nothing short of a miracle, Cathy has been given the gift of a live donor, her cousin's son, Brandon.

Brandon is in his early 20's and when he heard about Cathy's need for a kidney he thought ‘what the heck, why not see if I am a match.’ Brandon then began the live donor approval process.

It has been a six-month journey for the family to find out if Brandon is a match or not and they recently got word that Brandon is a match and Cathy is in good enough health to have the surgery!

Brandon lives in Oklahoma and has been traveling back and forth between his hometown and UC Davis for testing. Both families will have significant doctors bills and Brandon will be out of work for six weeks.

We would like to raise money for Cathy and her family so that they do not have to worry during this time about finances. Both Cathy and Brandon need to focus on the life-changing surgery ahead, healing and family right now.

Brandon is a professional photographer and he has been keeping a blog on the live donor process and his experience, which you can check out here; it is informational and inspiring: http://brandonburtonphotography.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/the-process-for-my-live-kidney-donation/
