Melo the Teacup Yorkie liver shunt fund....

Melo is my 2/12 year old teacup yorkie who appeared to be healthy until last year. In October 2011 I woke up to Melo having a seizure on my bed. I rushed him to the vet that morning and because it was his first seizure that I had witnessed, there wasn't much information to diagnose him. Month's had gone by with no seizures and I felt at ease until late February 2012 where he began to foam at his mouth and was extremely lethargic. His vet at the time was determined that he might have just choked on something and was trying to get it out....

Four weeks ago on a Monday morning my sister called me in a panic as I was on my way to work and asked me to come home immediately because Melo was foaming at the mouth, when I got home he was hiding behind the coach, foaming with a lot of saliva and liquid coming out of his nose. I rushed him to the nearest vet and once again they told us nothing. The foaming continued twice a week and the most traumatizing incident occurred in traffic while he was in the car for two hours....

I met with the breeders vet who recommended we do a bile acid test to determine if the foaming is a type of seizure and if the seizures are occurring due to a liver shunt. Unfortunately when the test came back I was delivered the news that there is a possibility that my baby has a liver shunt with his bile acid results at a 93. (normal would be between 0-14)

Not only does Melo have to be on a strict diet to try and control his condition, he now needs an Ultrasound done to determine the size of the shunt and if it can be surgucally removed at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in Davis California. The Ultrasound alone is $1200.00. If it can be removed, surgery will cost $5000.00. The Ultrsound is what I would like to take care of as soon as possible.

I would like to thank Dr. Mansfield and his staff at the Granite Bay Veterinary Clinic in Granite Bay California for all of his help with Melo.

Thank You in advance....My Melo sends all his love and appreciation....
