Please help to support Diabetic Athletes!

At the early age of 7 Coby was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This was mind boggling for his family which had no previous history of this disease, but instead of dwelling on the negative aspects, his family bonded around him encouraging him to lead a normal life. This Disease has not stopped Coby from persuing his dreams. About six months prior to being diagnosed, he started learning how to play at his fathers group lessons at the club where he taught. He has been coached by both of his parents since day one as they are both former players. Coby played his first tournament at the age of 8 and he has been competing ever since. At first he competed at the Novice/ Challenger level until he was winning most of his matches handily. By the time Coby was 9, he started playing Open level tournaments where he could be challenged and start working towards getting a Ranking. After lots of practice and hard work he became the #1 Ranked player in the 10 and under division for Northern California before his 10th birthday. With that accomplishment, Coby was invited to play an exhibition match during the intermission of the SAP Open, which is a Professional Tennis Tournament held in San Jose, Ca. Only the top 2 boys and girls in their age division were invited. He also qualified for the National “Little Mo’s Invitational” which was played in Austin Texas in 2010 & 2011. All of the top players from across the United States play this event. At the age of “9 1/2” he finished in the top eight out of 32 players. And then at the age of “10 1/2”, he finished 4th place out of 32 players. Coby is now 11 years old and is currently Ranked #3 in Northern California for the boys 12 and under division. This Ranking allowed him to compete at the 12’s Zonal’s in Tucson Arizona last August, which included players from the Western United States. Coby's accomplishments thus far have earned him a clothing Sponsorship with Athletic DNA, which gives him shirts, shorts, and socks on a regular basis. Although Diabetes has altered Cobys lifestyle, it has not stopped him from succeeding at everything he does. He has managed to continue playing and improving while at the same time controlling his blood/sugar levels on a daily basis. He currently uses an Insulin Pump which helps monitor his numbers. Besides tennis, Coby is also currently playing on a travel soccer team which he really loves. He enjoys playing both sports and is benefitting from the cross training aspects of it. Even though he is very busy with sports, he also makes time for his studies and maintains a 3.50 GPA in school. One of Cobys many goals is to become the #1 player in the 12’s division before his 12th birthday. He is also working hard to try and improve his National Ranking, which is currently #155. In order for him to obtain these goals, he will need to travel and play National Level Tournaments. Due to the costs associated with playing these types of Tournaments, however, it will be very difficult for Coby to participate unless he can get financial support. He would really like to play the upcoming Winter Nationals being held in Arizona from December 26- January 1 but will need some help to make that a reality. The trip will cost about $1500, which includes Airfair, Hotel, Rental Car, and Food. Please join this Cause in helping Coby persue his dreams of becoming a top tennis player.
