Please help this mother of 3 who needs treatment that could potentially save her life.

Hi, my name is Michelle and I've started this fundraising page for my dear friend Felicia Head.

I had the privilege of meeting Felicia while working for the Nashville Rescue Mission. Her son Jacob had developed quite a burden for the homeless... and being the fabulous mom that Felicia is... she wanted to show Jacob how to help more than just one person. She brought him to the Nashville Rescue Mission where Jacob's passion continued to grow. I've written a couple of stories about Jacob and his brothers helping the homeless whether it was through donating water when it was hot or donating blankets when it was cold.

Today, Felicia, her husband David, their sons Jacob (now 10), Samuel and Nathaniel (twins age 8) have devoted a lot of their time, energy, prayers and resources to helping those who are homeless, hungry and without hope.

Every time I talk to Felicia, she tells me just how blessed she is. She is an amazing woman of God and trusts Him with her whole heart. She is truly an inspiration to me.

It took a while before Felicia finally shared with me her diagnosis of FOP... it stands for Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive.

Here's how it's described on the IFOPA website:
One of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine, it causes bone to form in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Bridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that imprisons the body in bone. There are no other known examples in medicine of one normal organ system turning into another.

Here are a couple of other resources for information:

As far as how FOP has affected Felicia... she has multiple seizures a day. Frequently her speech is slurred, causing people to think she's drunk... when she's not. It's affected her hearing and vision. She's lost over 75 pounds and now her hair is falling out. The doctors say the disease is spreading into her rib cage area... making it harder for her to breath.

This family so often puts the needs of others ahead of their own.

But now it's their time of need.

After seeing lots of doctors in Nashville, and her disease getting worse... she's being referred to the Mayo Clinic in Florida and has an appointment on 2/28/12.

She will be there a week but not admitted. This is just to see several different doctors who can possibly help her. She can't travel by herself... so a friend who is a nurse is going to go with her.

She's going to require a place to stay for 5 days, airfare for two people, possibly a rental car and food.

I wish more than anything I had lots and lots of money and could afford to give them what they need to make this trip happen.

But sadly I don't. But I am resourceful and thought perhaps if enough people could "chip in" we could help make this trip happen.

Felicia's life depends on it.

I can't imagine her not being here... to be my friend, to be a wife to David and especially to be a mom to her precious 3 little boys who love her to pieces.

Please, if it's only $5 or $500, can you help me, help them get Felicia to Florida?
