This is for Ashley Walls' Gallbladder Surgery Fund. Funds will be used for surgery-related costs not covered by insurance.

I recently began having excruciating pain in my upper abdomen. After going for weeks with no diagnosis, doctors realized I had large gallstones that had lodged themselves in my common bile duct. This type of complication (blocking of the bile duct) can be extremely dangerous, causing infection, jaundice, etc. I need surgery but am unable to fully cover the costs. I do have health insurance, but it does not fully cover the costs of the operation. I have used all my other savings to pay for the required diagnostic tests (many blood workups, ultrasounds, etc.). I actually had to borrow money to cover my rent for this month. I am a student, from the Appalachian region of Tennessee, and the first in my family to attend college. I have asked everyone I know for assistance, but poverty runs deep in this area, so help is scarce. Without your generous assistance, I will have to choose between staying in school with the pain and possibility that this dangerous condition may worsen at any time and dropping out of school completely to try and find a job that will allow me to save the money. It is my dream to be able to finish school uninterrupted. Ironically, I am in my last year of school and am planning on applying to medical school in the near future. It is my long-term goal to become a primary care physician providing services in rural areas to the uninsured and under-insured. The thought of having to drop out of school over a gallbladder is incredibly frustrating and saddening to me. Our country is more than what it has become, with ballooning healthcare costs and few safety nets. I humbly ask for your help to fund my surgery, which will ultimately help me to help others in turn. I am a firm believer in paying it forward, and I will gratefully do that for any help that I am given.
