This fundraiser is created in Buddy's honor to help the homeless Pit Bulls of Ventura

This whole journey started with one dog, one little Pit Bull girl named Bella. She and her mom Tina "fly a sign" near my house and I would pass them every day on my way to work. One day I decided to stop and talk to them, and see if they needed food or water. Through them I heard about Buddy. Bella and Buddy would sometimes hang out together when Buddy's mom Erica was running errands.
When I met Buddy he had four working legs. He was so handsome and sweet. Then I didn't see him for awhile and asked Tina what happened to him. She told me he had been hit by a motorcycle and was hurt badly. I asked where Buddy and Erica were and she told me they were often in front of the old Target. I looked for several days on my way to work but never spotted them. Then on a day I was running about 10 minutes late for work, I saw them. Buddy was standing with his mom and his right front leg was hanging down, paw dragging. I don't know what possessed me, I knew I would be late for work, but I pulled into the parking lot and walked over to them. I introduced myself and sat down to talk to them. Buddy came right over, sat in my lap and put his head on my shoulder. It was almost like he was asking me if I could help. I stayed for almost half an hour, and when I got up to leave I told Erica that I didn't know how I was going to help, but I was going to try. I fretted about it for two days and finally late at night I got online and picked a random chip-in site, put his picture up and wrote his story down. I threw it up on facebook asking people to help me give this precious dog back his life. The next morning there was over $500 donated! I couldn't believe my eyes! Those of you who have followed Buddy's story know the long road we all traveled, and all the ups and downs along the way. Bottom line is, together we raised over $7000. Through the generosity of what is now lovingly known as "Buddy Nation", I paid all his back vet bills, got another vet consultation about his leg, paid for the amputation surgery, 3 days in ICU at VMSG, and three weeks of recovery in a motel room. Absolutely amazing! When it was time for Buddy and Erica to go back to life on the streets, his amazing angels stepped up again, donating tent, sleeping bags, camping supplies...the list goes on and on.
That path I took with Buddy kept on going, and I met little Chico. We got him his shots and worming, new harness and leash, food and a bunch of other little things along the way. Sadly his mom and dad changed their mind about neutering him. I'm hoping they still come around. I told them I won't be helping them anymore unless they become part of the solution. That was hard for me because Chico is a great dog.
And then....the puppies and Wilbur. Oh Wilbur! I love that dog! Buddy Nation paid for Wilbur's neuter and the re-do when he ripped it open, got the puppies their shots and worming, and the rescue I volunteer with got them into a wonderful foster home where they got fat and healthy, and then found them their loving forever homes. I still help Wilbur and his parents with food and supplies when I can afford it, but I need help desperately.
Then I met Capone, the handsome goofball who flies a sign with his mom and dad on the corner by Winco, dressed in hat and sunglasses with a rose in his collar. Buddy Nation helped me spring him from the Camarillo Shelter in less than 24 hours when he ended up there through no fault of his own, and also paid for his shots and license.
And most recently I have met Deuce. A young boy, not even a year old. He was given to a homeless couple by another homeless man because his other dog didn't get along with him. Deuce needs everything. He has fleas, he has worms, he needs shots and a wellness exam. I gave them food and water and a leash and collar. The poor dog was on a chain. I will do more when I am able with your help.
Now, all my words about overpopulation of Pit Bulls, and spay and neuter, has finally not fallen on deaf ears! Wilbur was already neutered a few months ago. Bella's mom, Capone's parents, and Deuce's parents have all told me they are ready. You know me, I jumped on the phone and made appointments for all three! They will all be part of the solution instead of the problem in early March.
Oh, and two more dogs who I haven't met yet..Hogs and Sadie, who are the parents of the puppies. Their families are asking for the dogs to be fixed. I'll get on that like flies on you know what! Will keep you posted on that.
And so, this fundraiser is formed to help me to help all these dogs and their families. A continuing effort created in Buddy's honor, to care for the homeless Pit Bulls of Ventura and their families.
I will need to pay for continuing spay and neuters, vetting, dog food, and supplies. When I see the need, I would like to fill it, and I can only do that with your help. Things like bicycles, bike trailers, sleeping bags, tents, leashes, collars, and clothing can be donated. Together we will continue to make a difference.
Right now, I need funds for the spay and neuters and the vetting of Deuce. I would also like to get some supplies for the dogs and their people, but I will post that later. I plan to make a facebook page specifically for this cause, for Buddy Nation.
I think the thing that compels me is that they don't have a choice. They are where they are, with the people they are with, and that's their world. And they adore their people. Undying, unconditional love, that only dogs can give. And believe me, their people love them equally. Their dogs are their world. They just don't have the resources to care for them properly. This is where Buddy Nation is going to make a difference.
In closing, I ask you to share this new path in the journey. When the facebook page goes up, I will put it on my personal page and ask for you to share that as well. The more people who know, the more we can help.
Thank you for caring, thank you for sharing the journey with me.
