Global outreach is an amazing program. My team and I will be going to Waynesburg, PA to build houses with Habitat for humanity over spring break. We will also be learning about rural poverty here in the US. Thank you and we appreciate the support.

Dear Friends and Family,
I wanted to contact you and tell you about this amazing program I am leading called Global Outreach. Global Outreach is a cultural immersion and service program where Fordham students learn about various issues of social, economic, political and environmental injustice, while living a simple lifestyle that fosters communal and spiritual growth. This year I have been blessed to be leading a wonderful group of students to Waynesburg, PA. This project will take place during spring break: March 13-22. As a participant, I will travel to Greene County, PA, stay with Habitat for Humanity and work daily at a service project by building houses for families who need homes. I also get to understand first hand the social issues and implications of rural poverty in the United States.

What motivated me to pursue this project was I personally went on GO! NYC last year and it changed my life. I worked with the missionaries of charity and local homeless shelters. The daily interactions in my hometown were an eye-opening experience. I take the subway nearly every day and yet it was on this project that I began to see the number of people on the street and without a place to go. I believe that through work with Global Outreach, specifically GO! Waynesburg can make a difference in the lives of those around us. This group builds a bridge of understanding and outreach between the two feet of social justice of direct action and social justice for the people of Waynesburg, PA. I sincerely want to be a part of this effort.
So the total cost of the trip for the entire group is $3360.00. It is a group of 7 students including leader and chaperone. Obviously I cannot do this on my own. I need help. Our group will be fund-raising through bake sales, selling t-shirts and, of course, letter writing to friends, family and service groups. We will raise money to help with our transportation and housing expenses as well as to architectural and building supplies for the Habitat for Humanity in Greene County, PA, the main site we will be working.

I believe in Global Outreach’s vision and work, which is why I am committed to raising money to help out the organization by spring break. To help me meet, and hopefully surpass, my financial goals, I am asking for your support. Please be as generous as you can and I would appreciate any donation ranging from $5 to $250 or above before March 31st. I truly appreciate any donation you can make, for every dollar counts!

I personally dislike writing to ask for money. However, my uneasiness with sending fund-raising letters is overcome by how important I feel this trip is and the opportunity it affords me. If you can help with a donation, I would really appreciate it. If not, please keep me, my companions and the people we will be working with in your thoughts. In any case, I will let you know how the trip went when I return.
I hope all is well and thank you so much for your support. Please feel free contact me with any questions or concerns if you would like to learn more about GO! WAYNESBURG, Global Outreach, and/ or Habitat for Humanity.
Thank you for taking time to read and consider this wonderful project.
Sincerely,
Shilpa A. Joseph
