This is the friends of Shannon Britton uniting to raise money to help her with medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

In 1999, Shannon was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) after years of symptoms and complications. Since then, Shannon has endured over 13 years of medical interventions that stopped working and wreaked havoc on her body all while gaining more and more weight despite attempts to lose while living a healthy and active lifestyle. In 2008, Shannon's PCOS blew up to include Metabolic Disorder. interventions that have wrecked havoc on her body. On November 23, 2011, Shannon had Gastric Bypass Surgery to not only lose weight, but to save her life. Had she not had this surgery, she faced a lifetime of complications and was bound for cancer, heart-disease, and possibly a stroke and was looking at being dead by 40.

As of writing this (7/10/2012) Shannon has lost over 150 pounds, and her risk of cancer, heart disease, and stroke are down by 92%. Her PCOS and Metabolic Disorder have gone dormant and into remission, although she will always have them, they will stay dormant as long as she stays healthy.

As you can imagine, this kind of weight loss has wreaked havoc on her body and she will need reconstructive plastic surgery to look more like normal and to get rid of the pain and rashes that the excess skin rubbing together has created for Shannon. Not only is it very uncomfortable and medically necessary, it is quite often embarassing.

Shannon has a great career in Human Resources, and while her insurance covered the Gastric Bypass, it will not cover plastic surgery of any kind. It is important to us that Shannon be allowed to live as normal of a life as possible after struggling for so long to save her own life and she does not qualify for any programs (such as disability or assistance) as of now for this procedure.

Shannon is passionate about getting healthy and freely shares her stories and inspiration with others about overcoming obstacles and guiding others through getting healthy for themselves. She has made a commitment to herself to be here, and we as her friends want to help her make this happen.

Shannon has about $5,000 of the money for the needed procedures saved up, and we would really like to help her come up with the rest.
