Give street children in the DRC an opportunity to express themselves creatively as well as improve and enhance the space they call home.

In mid-April Mozambican schools will not be in session. Jonathan Darby and Samantha Robison (APTA Director) are taking this opportunity to provide a short-term arts project for street children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project will take place at drop-in centers for street children that have been disenfranchised due to the ongoing conflict in Goma and the surrounding areas.
The DR Congo’s war officially ended with peace accords in 2003, but conflict continues, particularly in the east. This war stands as the world's deadliest conflict since World War II and has killed 5.4 million people since 1998. In 2009, it was estimated that people in the Congo were still dying at a rate of 45,000 per month.
Efforts are being made to re-establish order and infrastructure but still there remains a long and difficult path ahead, particularly for the children and young adults who are the future of the country.
Our goal is to give these children an opportunity to express themselves creatively as well as improve and enhance the space they call home. We will be designing and painting murals with the children on the walls in and around their center.
All travel and transport expenses for this project will be coming out of our own pockets. We are simply asking for your help in funding paints and paintbrushes the children will need to create the mural.
Any amount you can give to make this project happen would be immensely helpful! Please, take a moment out of your time to make a difference.
