I am raising money to help support a local hero, my brother, Brian Long.

Everyday, we hear stories about families that are struggling to support themselves and their families after they sustained life altering injuries and disabilities while fighting to protect America. Sadly, the number of families are growing and the amount of help they are receiving is getting smaller.

Brian Long was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia and a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School. In 2003, he joined the military to start his career as a mechanic. His first duty station was located in South Korea where he was attached to the 2nd MP Company. During a patrol, an altercation occurred and he was shot in the back which resulted in a broken rib and a punctured lung. After 3 months of recovery, he was able to return to his normal duties. In September 2004, his brigade deployed to Iraq for 1 year and was attached to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. During his tour, he completed over 250 missions. His missions included house raids, pulling security for the bomb squad, and providing immediate reinforcement to other soldiers being ambushed. During a mission, he was involved in a road side bombing. His Humvee was totaled and he suffered severe injuries that caused him to be disabled today. When Brian returned to the states, he received a Purple Heart Medal and an Army Commendation Medal. While he was stateside, he received therapy and surgical treatment for his injuries but the damage was too severe and he was Honorably Discharged for Medical reasons in 2006.

Some of the injuries that Brian sustained and painfully deals with today are:

  1. broken wrist: still deals with much pain and is unable to shoot a fire arm.
  2. hearing loss
  3. post traumatic stress disorder (nightmares and flashbacks)
  4. migraine headaches on a daily basis
  5. back injuries

Today Brian is 29 years old. He is married and he has a 3 year old son. He is currently out of work due to his back injuries that are causing him so much pain he can't work. Since, he is out of work Brian and his wife are doing the best they can to get by and keep it together, but they need help. They need financial help to help with their medical bills, mortgage, utility bills, childcare, co-pays for doctor appointments, specialists fees and so on. Brian is going to have back procedures this month which means he will not be going back to work anytime soon. Brian has been putting in appeals with the VA for his back injuries and migraines and he keeps getting denied and given the run around. With bills coming in and the not knowing of when Brian will be able to return to work, Brian and Aimee are under a lot of stress. So I am trying to raise money for them a few different ways.
