The family and friends of Shirley Friedman are uniting to raise money to help her fight metastatic breast cancer, and support her young son.

Shirley Friedman is a 38 year old single mother, who has been fighting breast cancer for the second time. Shirley was first diagnosed at the age of 29. She was treated and stayed in remission for 7 years, during which she and her ex-husband had their son, Gil Ethan, who was later on diagnosed with PDD NOS - a developmental disorder on the AUTISM spectrum.

During the first year of her separation from her husband, while working as a PreK teacher to support herself and her son, Shirley was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which meant that the breast cancer has spread to her bones, her spine, one of her lungs and her liver. Shirley continued working while undergoing treatment and caring for her son. In May of 2010 Shirley has lost her job as a teacher and has since been unemployed. She has made a decision to move to PA from MA, for the purpose of getting support from her brother who lives near by. Currently residing in West Chester PA, Shirley is struggling to make ends meet and is about to exhaust her unemployment benefits. Despite going through chemotherapy, she is still looking for work and attending online Business Administration classes, to complete her associate degree, hoping it will open more options for her. Through these tough times, Shirley maintains a positive and cheerful approach, believing in the good hearts of the people surrounding her. She is determined to stay around as much as she can, so she can see her son grow up and graduate from high school and attend college.
