This fund will be used to help Val with his battle against mouth and throat cancer.

In October of 2011, Val found a lump on his tounge. He went for a biopsy and was told told the lump was cancer. This was the second time he would be given this news. In November 2005, he was told for the first time that he had mouth cancer. He went under went surgery, chemo, and radiation.

In 2009, he met his future wife. We married in April of 2010. In October, just 6 months after being married, Val got the news that his cancer was back. We made the trip to Galveston, where he had his first surgery, and consulted the same doctor. After a few months of test, he had another surgery in February of 2011. With this surgery he was in the hopsital for 3 weeks. He also could no longer eat by mouth. He had to have a feeding tube inserted into his stomach during the surgery. The doctor told him he would not get well.

We decided that he needed to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Here, we met wonderful doctors. He started a clinical trial chemo. He could not do radiation again, though. He did not get to finish this treatment because the chemo became to much on his body. He was sent to another doctor and began a new clinical trial. That trial had no effect. The first week of June he began a new clinical trial.

In this new trial, we have to travel to Houston every week for treatment and blood test. We live 4 hours away in East Texas. Val has become to weak to work and now has a blood clot in his leg where they took tissue and bone to help reconstruct his tounge and jaw.

His wife is a school teacher, and now the only one working to support their family. Their youngest daugher will be a senior in high school in the fall. The school district where she teaches only gives the teachers the 5 state sick days. After that , all days missed are docked from her pay, which is about $250 each day she misses.
Please help take away that added worry about travel expenses and the basic need of paying bills at home.

Thank you so much for your prayers and help during this time.

God Bless You!
