This is the Julie Tiekotter breast cancer fund. The funds will be used for Julie's medical and living expenses not covered by insurance.

Although I already considered Julie Tiekotter to be one of the strongest spirits I’ve ever known, the strength she has shown throughout her fight with breast cancer, which began in April, 2011, has made her more than just an awesome friend - she is my hero. For those of you that know Jules already, you know that she is loving, generous, gracious, and fun-loving. For those of you that have yet to make her acquaintance, you definitely have something to look forward to.

Julie is very lucky: It looks like she is not going to lose her life at this time. However, the nature of her treatments and surgeries have left her unable to work for months; and the possibility of working is unlikely for at least several months into next year. Although she has already undergone chemotherapy and three surgeries, she has at least two major surgeries plus radiation to look forward to. Julie has suffered almost every possible side effect from chemotherapy, and all at the most extreme level. To give you an idea of what this feels like, imagine not being able to eat for days at a time and losing 27 pounds in only six weeks. Imagine not being able to walk more than a few feet because your leg muscles are atrophied and the soles of your feet are burned as red as if you had a third degree burn on them. Imagine not being able to sleep because of the excruciating pain in your legs....These are only a few of the side effects that happen all at once for months on end.

As a result of her inability to work, Julie is struggling to meet medical and basic living expenses. Her family and close friends continue to contribute as much as they can; but this is still not enough. For the first time in her life, Julie is swallowing her pride (those of you that know her understand the significance of this!) and is reaching out for help.

Today, Saturday, December 10th, is the last day of this fundraiser. We are asking that everyone donate $10 in honor of that, and to help us get a little closer to our goal, which we have fallen shy of. However, any contribution, large or small, will be appreciated beyond what words can express. If you prefer to send Julie a check directly, please contact Reina at Please, help Julie finish her battle with breast cancer.
