Mommer ("The Red Bomber") needs treatment for an invasive and aggressive cancer.

Mommer (the Red Bomber) has an aggressive and invasive form of cancer (spindle cell sarcoma). The good news is the CT scan did not show any metastases! Chemotherapy is not needed (yay!), but the tumor is inoperable (boo). Diagnostics are completed, and radiation starts on Friday August 10.

Mommer came into my life as a scared, beat up, over-bred stray. She has had a rough life, but she quickly became a pampered cuddle-bug! She got her name from obviously being a Mom, and also a Bomb, as she used to tackle me in the back of the legs while we were running! When a knot first developed on her neck around the first of the year, x-rays showed a calcium build-up. My vet said that surgery would be difficult and likely unsuccessful, because the calcification usually comes back. The x-ray also revealed either buckshot or BBs imbedded in Mommer's neck, so she was shot at some point in her life! She has definitely led a rough life prior to joining my family, and I'm happy that I could provide her with some comfort and love. When the knot began to grow rapidly, we went back for more x-rays, which revealed that it wasn't the calcification that was growing, but a tumor. Biopsy results showed an aggressive spindle cell sarcoma. Treatment will be intensive, but Mommer deserves every chance to lead a happy life!
