The family and friends of Kenny Gundel are uniting to raise money to help him recover from a massive heart attack that almost took his life.

This is Kenny's miracle story:

Kenny Gundel, 47 years old, suffered a major heart attack on August 13th, 2012. He was at work, getting ready to trim some trees and hang a gutter for a man named Ernie. No one knew that Ernie, an 86-year old World War II Veteran would be the one to save his life.

Kenny Gundel has been a hard worker all his life. He started working at the age of 16 doing roof work and house painting with a friend of his family.

From that point on, he knew that he had a great gift. He learned how to do everything from remodeling to landscaping & irrigation to concrete texture and pool decks. He found great satisfaction in being able to start a project and see it through to completion. He did this work, and it was his only profession from the time he was a teenager until the day of his heart attack.

About 11:30am on August 13th, Kenny was talking with Ernie and collapsed. He was not breathing and he was turning blue, so Ernie screamed for his wife to call 911. Ernie performed CPR on him until the paramedics arrived. The paramedics shocked him twice with no response. On the third try, the medic stated, "this is the last time. If this doesn't work, we will have to pronounce him dead." They turned up the juice and shocked him for the third time, and he almost flew off the gurney. It worked though, and they had a heart beat.

Kenny was rushed to Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where they performed emergency surgery on his heart. The heart attack was caused by a 100% blockage in his coronary artery.

The reason I am starting this fund-raiser for Kenny is because he is unable to work now. The work he loved to do all his life is gone. He doesn't know anything else. Unfortunately, he did not have medical insurance because he worked for himself. His hospital and medical bills total $164,579.00. He has no income now, with little chance of finding a job with his heart condition. Kenny will have to have another surgery also. He has another coronary artery that is 90% blocked which can cause him another heart attack at any time. He also has to take very expensive heart medication, that at this time, we can not afford. We have turned to family for help, but they have helped us all they can.

Kenny is in recovery and doing ok, but the recovery process can take up to two years. He also has a 14-year old daughter that is suffering due to the lack of child support, which just breaks his heart. Kenny is a good man, with a love for God and people. He loves to make people laugh. He is taking it well, but struggles with uncertainty about his future, and taking care of himself and his family.

We are engaged to be married, and this stress on him really worries me. However, we know that God will provide for us, and has His reasons that this happened. He has applied for Social Security Disability and Medicaid, but the process is extremely slow. We are asking for your help. Please pray or give thoughtful consideration as to how you may participate in Kenny's recovery. Our goal is to raise money to help with the staggering medical bills and the financial support Kenny needs for his recovery, and medicines.

We are grateful to God, our family, and the wonderful paramedics and firefighters that saved his life. A very special thank you to Ernie, our hero. We are so thankful that God chose not to take him home that day and we want to do all we can to make sure he stays with us for a long time to come. Thank you for taking the time to read Kenny's miracle story, and we look forward to receiving all the support and love we need to get us through this tough trial. May God bless you as you reach out and help one of His children. Thank you.
