This is a fund raiser to help Davien, a 17-year-old boy with Aspergers, to meet the costs associated with his chemotherapy treatments.

May 1, 2012, my just-turned 17-year-old grandson with Aspergers was given the news that he had Burkitts Lymphoma. Since then Davien has been suffering through chemotherapy and all of its ugly, painful effects.

The same week he was diagnosed, his mom and step-dad lost their home to foreclosure and were ordered to vacate in 4 days.

They live over two and a half hours away from Portland, OR where Davien needs to go for chemotherapy every 3 weeks at Doernbecher's Childrens Hospital. He stays for 5-6 days and his mom, who has an infant, must stay in a hotel room. The social worker found a hotel they deal with so mom and infant could stay. It is not real close to the hospital (which is up on a tall hill from the hotel), so she must bring her car. While the hotel accepts the Hospital's lower fee for a room, they are not the cleanest nor the safest place for a woman and her child to stay. Added to this, the hotel charges $12 a night for parking (not covered by the social worker's programs). The Ronald McDonald House will not allow mom and baby there as she has a restraining order against Davien's dad. She understands their concern for the safety of the others in the House, but it makes things rough for her.

The step-dad, meanwhile, has to stay home to go to work and with no car, must take the bus to and from.

The cost of special prescriptions are robbing them blind, as is the cost of car gas, hotel parking, and food.

When Davien is between sessions, there are extra needs to make him comfortable in order to survive the vicious side effects of the chemotherapy, and these add up. For example, during the 95+ degree weather, Davien's white blood count (immune system) was down to zero and he was too ill to leave his home. The danger of being around others while his immune system was gone was too high. In a tiny apartment with no air conditioner, the heat was just too unbearable so an air conditioner had to be bought for him, a $300 unexpected cost.

By now they are late in almost all bill payments since they made the decision that Davien's needs comes first. They desperately need financial help to continue to do this.
