James Dahl enjoyed swimming, riding his bike and going on field trips as much as any ten-year old. Cheerful, quirky and lovable, he hoped to play "It's a Wonderful World" on his ukelele like Jack Johnson, one day. But in February 2012, his life was interrupted by a sudden onset of unexplained seizures. His life was punctuated by ambulance rides, hospital stays, blood tests, EEGs, MRI's, PET scans and numerous medications. Yet, his seizures continued inexplicably, frequently and without warning. In their search for answers, James’ family and friends sought help at Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA, nearly 1,000 miles from home, known for its world-class epilepsy care, in February 2013.

The diagnosis was Rasmussen's Encephalitis, an extremely rare auto-immune disorder. James underwent radical brain surgery in July of 2013, and now faces many months of rehabilitation to recover from the loss of the right side of his brain, which has left him partially paralyzed and struggling to recover normal speech. This brave boy and his family needs your help more than ever.
