Sponsoring Success in the Performing Arts in Charlotte, NC

The Intermezzo Awards needs $850 to file for 501c3 public charity status with the IRS.

501c3 public charity status will allow the Intermezzo Awards to claim tax-exemption, which means that all donations from individuals and businesses can be tax-deductible. Without the public charity status, the Intermezzo Awards can still receive donations. However, in order to apply for foundation grants that are the life-blood of non-profit organizations, the Intermezzo Awards needs to have been granted 501c3 public charity status.

Upon being awarded 501c3 public charity status by the IRS, the Intermezzo Awards will be one step closer to launching its flagship scholarship programs.

The Intermezzo Awards, founded in November 2010 by Charlotte resident Tammy Hsu, is a new non-profit organization created to enhance the city’s performing arts culture. As an award-winning classically trained pianist and lifelong patron of the performing arts, Hsu has created the Intermezzo Awards with the mission of making performing arts more accessible to the public and to reward success amongst talented students. By partnering with the many arts venues and schools in the Charlotte area, the Intermezzo Awards plans to eventually offer students of all ages scholarships to supplement their study in music, dance, and theater as well as giving them the opportunity to win tickets for performances by world-renowned artists and to network with professionals in their field of study. In the future, the Intermezzo Awards hopes to expand to offering college assistance to qualified students in the greater Charlotte area. For more information, visit
