Please help us raise money so that we are able to volunteer in Guatemala and help out those that desperately need us.

We are a group of four nursing students who want to make a difference in the lives of others. We are going to Guatemala from June 5th to July 16th to volunteer at medical clinics, and also to improve our own clinical skills and learn Spanish.

By going to Guatemala we hope to make a difference and come back as much more confident nurses that will be able to help more people with our Spanish-speaking ability.

Each of us are paying at least $2,400 out of our own pockets to go on this trip, which includes the program fees, Spanish classes, housing with a local family, meals, plane tickets, etc.

Any contribution that you make will go directly towards our volunteering experience, medical clinics where we work, or will be used to purchase medical supplies.

Any amount, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts and will help us tremendously.

The total amount raised will be divided evenly between the 4 of us, unless specified in your comment.

Thank You,

Rayna, Lacey, Hilary, and Diana

The following is more information about the program, from one of IVHQ's program coordinators:

On the 6th June 2011, Rayna, Lacey, Hilary, and Diana will spend six weeks volunteering on the International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) medical program in Antigua, Guatemala. IVHQ is a New Zealand based NGO that provides safe, affordable volunteering opportunities abroad. The rural areas of Guatemala contrast sharply with those in large cities, especially with respect to medical care. Volunteers get hands on experience working in small local clinics for the poor and/or working with local doctors and nurses on medical programs – providing check-ups and basic medical care in poor communities and at orphanages. Our health are some of the highest impact opportunities we offer, both in terms of what the volunteer provides to the local community as well as the field experience the volunteer gains from the experience.

In order to participate on this program, each student has to pay fees of US$1100, which will cover his accommodation, meals, orientation, program placement, volunteer support services, placement supervision and administration costs of the program. Furthermore, they will have extra costs such as airfares to Guatemala, in country travel and vaccinations. Finally, many volunteers also find their impact is even more profound if they take some fundraised/donated money to invest in projects being undertaken by the local NGOs and communities with whom they are working. I have no doubt that from these student's qualifications and skills they will make excellent volunteers. Any assistance that you can provide them with will be really appreciated. If you wish to discuss this matter further or have any questions I am more than happy to help.
