The CTA has given noisivelvet a green light to raise funds to make the mobile garden happen!
The basic concept is to build a garden on a flatcar train and to let it travel with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as part of their regular transit service.
The CTA has officially given the project a green light to move forward!
noisivelvet is a 501(c)(3). The board members include: Carrie Menendez, MPA, Research Assistant, Great Cities Institute, Doctoral Student, College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs; Molly Meyer, Green Roofing Consultant, Molly Meyer LLC; and Madiem Kawa, organizer of the Smart Garden at the Museum of Science and Industry, and Environmental Program Organizer at the University of Illinois Extension.
We've received a rough estimate of $350,000 which does not include the considerable costs for promotions, materials, and seed for distribution. The USDA, Harvest Moon Farms and Midwest Groundcovers are donating all of the plants for the garden. This project is completely being funded by noisivelvet and friends.
