This fund is to offset costs associated with a lung transplant for Jolene Brong and will cover medical and relocation expenses.

Hi! My name is Jolene Brong. I am 65 years old and have been on oxygen for 12 years. Over the years it has gotten more difficult to do things because I get so short of breath. My doctors advise that without a lung transplant I may die in the next year.

I have so many more things I would like to do with my life. I have three wonderful children, Charlene, Douglas, and Kevin. They have blessed me with 9 grandchildren who I would really like to see grow up. I’d like to go to their soccer games, dance recitals and other activities without the fear of having an issue my breathing and oxygen dependency. I would love to be able to really play with them without getting tired so quickly. I would also like to meet my great grandchildren!

I have always wanted to travel, especially to Ireland. I want to visit and walk the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall and play in the sand at the beach in the summer. I would love to take my dog Benji for nice long walks like he deserves.

I’ve been working with the great doctors and staff at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC and I have been given the opportunity for a double lung transplant. I’ve worked hard with the pulmonary rehab team and have met so many great people both pre and post-transplant. It gives me such hope and drive to see other patients like me go through this program and get back their lives!

I will need to relocate to Durham once I am listed and until they let me go home post-transplant. This could be a few months or more. Some of the medications I will need to take after transplant are not covered by my insurance and are extremely expensive. This is where I need help. If you can contribute any amount to help with the medical expenses I will forever be grateful! Also, I know many of you have been praying for me and I appreciate that more than you know. Please keep them coming!

Thank you and God bless!
