The family and friends of Rick Weidner are uniting to raise money to help with his battle against Stage III Adult Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Rick began to notice a change in his health in early November 2011. After weeks of feeling sick and a dramatic weight loss, Rick felt that it was finally time to go to the doctor to see exactly what it was that was plaguing him. After leaving the doctor that very same day, Rick arrived home only to receive a message from his employer telling him that the company he had spent twelve years working for was going out of business and that he would also be losing his insurance.

A couple of weeks went by and Rick would finally learn the cause of his illness, he was diagnosed with cancer the week of Thanksgiving. More weeks passed, numerous blood tests were performed, two cat scans done, and a biopsy was completed; Rick’s cancer was finally identified: Stage III Adult Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This diagnosis also came with the news that Rick’s cancer had spread to his large mass, kidneys, testicles, and lymph nodes. In the next few weeks, he will also have a bone marrow biopsy performed, a PET scan done, a MUGA scan completed, and a portacath inserted on top of everything else.

Rick’s only source of income right now comes from unemployment benefits. However, I do not know how long he will be able to claim these benefits, due to the fact that you are required to seek work in order to receive these benefits. As previously mentioned, Rick now has no insurance. His doctors have decided that the best course of treatment for him right now would be undergoing six months of chemotherapy. Rick has worked his whole life and if he could work now, he would. However, no one, including Rick, saw this coming. He will need time to undergo chemotherapy, concentrate on trying to regain his health back, and to continue to fight for his life.

Rick has no stocks. He has no retirement savings. Nor does he have life insurance. He is fifty-nine years old and has never once asked for help from anyone in his life. I am asking this on behalf of Rick, simply because he would never do this for himself.

Rick came into my life twenty-one years ago when I needed him the most. I was a single mother of three children, two of which had disabilities. He has always been there for us and now we want to be there for him. The money will only go for medical expenses and the expenses accrued from this disability.

Thank you for your support and donations. It truly is appreciated.
