Helping the Grover Family get to Boston!

Meet the Grovers. Their battle has been a long 5-year journey since the birth of their second son, Brayden. He began having seizures only hours after birth. He spent weeks at Arnold Palmer’s Children’s Hospital in Orlando – at one point his seizures were so bad that at three weeks old he was placed in a medically induced coma. After many trips to the emergency room and several changes in medicines, he was finally life flighted to Miami Children’s Hospital where he became a patient of Dr. Resnick. Under Dr. Resnick’s care, Brayden’s (or Brady for short), seizures were as controlled as possible with medication. While the seizures have caused major developmental delays, he is a loving and happy little boy.

After much genetic testing, the Grovers were told that there was no chance another child of theirs would face the same road as Brady. With this news, they decided to add to their family and became pregnant with a daughter. However, hours after Alaina was born, she too began to have seizures and was life flighted to Miami. The family spent weeks in Miami in order to find answers and control her seizures. Her seizures were minimal with medicine for the first six months of her life, but she again was life flighted to Miami for treatment due to a cluster of very long seizures. She spent a difficult 5 months in Miami while doctors tried to find the right combination of medicine that would control her seizures. During this time period, she suffered several seizures that lasted over 30 minutes, some even over an hour. She has been home with minimal seizure activity for over eight months now. While her seizures are once again as controlled as possible with medication, she still has severe developmental delays, but her smile radiates & her laugh is contagious.

Both children have a variety of therapy sessions each week to assist in their physical and mental development. Their therapists and parents work diligently to improve their lives every day.

The Grover family, along with their primary doctor in Miami, has been seeking assistance from other doctors and facilities to find an answer to what ails their children.

The family is planning a trip to Boston Children’s Hospital in May of this year to meet with Dr. Gerard Berry & Dr. Irina Anselm. The Grovers are hopeful that this trip will yield some much needed answers for Brady & Alaina.

As anyone can imagine, the financial toll of having two ill children is a burden no parent should have to bear. Medical insurance only covers so much, and the Grovers are faced with hard financial decisions every day. Their travel expenses to Boston are to be paid out-of-pocket, so their friends & family have come together to help them get to Boston.

On Thursday, April 26 an event is being hosted in Brady & Alaina's honor. Join us from 6 PM - 9 PM at the Cellar Upstairs at the San Sebastian Winery in St. Augustine, Florida. We have live entertainment, a buffet of Boston-themed foods, door prizes, and a silent auction. Contact Crystal Hill for more info at or 904.347.5186.
