Help me raise $11,500 to build a new kitchen for an entire school in Bosnia.

I became aware of Mary's Meals during a presentation by Magnus MacFarlane. He is the Chief Executive for Mary's Meals. Magnus gave a presentation to my theology class at Rockhurst High School. I was touched by the work of this group and have set a goal of being able to build one kitchen in Bosnia. I hope to do my part to provide good nutrition and educational opportunities many of us take for granted. The organization Mary's Meals (www.marysmealsusa.com) provides meals for hungry school-children in 3rd world countries. For $11,500 a brand new kitchen can be built in a Bosnian school. The idea for Mary's Meals begain in 1992 when two brothers living in Scotland were watching the news about the conflict in Bosnia. They were so moved that they decided to collect blankets, clothing, and food for Bosnia. They quickly collected a load of goods for those in the war torn country. They drove to Bosnia, delivered their donations, and returned to Scotland. However, when they got home donations continued to pour in. The two men decided to give up their jobs for a year. They continued driving to and from Bosnia with all the generous donations they received. The donations did not stop and eventually they created an organized charity. Then, while in Malawi, they met a woman. She had six children and she was dying from AIDS. She was very faithful to God. All she could do was pray for the future well-being of her children as she lay dying. The two brothers asked her oldest son what he hoped for most in life. His reply was to have enough food to eat and to be able to go to school one day. When the two men heard this, they decided to change the direction of their work. They became determined to accomplish both of these goals for her son and for many. Mary's Meals strives to promote adequate nutrition and the opportunity for education for all children in these very poor countries. Children are given one free meal daily at school while continuing their education.
