This fund has been created for Ryan Carrington of Canmore, Alberta. Please open your heart & become one of his Guardian Angels.

For three-year-old Ryan, life has been an uphill battle ever since his first breath. Your donation will help Ryan and his family through the final stages of his life-long battle with brain cancer.

We hope that by joining together as a community we can enrich Ryan's remaining days so that he will be as comfortable and content as possible. This fund will assist the Carrington family with mounting medical expenses and other essential costs.

Ryan is a very brave and special little boy, and has touched many hearts during his brief time in this world.

Ryan's Story

On 31st July 2008 Ryan Daniel Jack Carrington was born. Having Laryngomalacia, Infant Reflux, Eczema, severe food allergies and failure to gain weight made life challenging but manageable. After spending 10 difficult days in Alberta Children`s Hospital in July 2009 Ryan came back home complete with a feeding (NG) tube. In March 2010 after removing the tube Ryan got pneumonnia. After a short 3 day stay in our local hospital Ryan came home but could not walk, or move his body properly. On the 10th June 2010, after a MRI, Ryan was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor. A few days later Ryan had surgery to have a porta cath fitted to make it easier on him for treatment. The day after Ryan started his first lot of chemotherapy.

Ryan`s chemotherapy was expected to last approx. 2 - 3 years. This involved a 240km round trip at least once a week to the closest Children`s Hospital. The hope was that Ryan's body would tolerate treatment and the tumor would shrink to a more manageable size so that it could be surgically removed, hopefully without causing too much damage.

Ryan is such a little fighter, and certainly one of the bravest boys you could ever be lucky enough to meet. His days have been filled with challenges that should never be faced by someone so small. Over the course of his three short years, Ryan has endured many pricks & pokes; along with headaches, neuropathic pain, nausea, vomiting, choking, infections, breathing issues and reduced mobility which has resulted in the need for a wheelchair. (DIPG slowly reduces motor function resulting in partial paralysis, loss of voice and sight; and ending with an inability to eat and breathe, while cognitive abilities remain in tact. It is both a heart breaking and painful disease as the child is fully aware of their decline)

Despite all of this, Ryan's family has tried to stay positive and has been constantly amazed by how far he has come and by his unwavering determination. Although he cannot walk or do some of the other things that come so easily to other children his age, he never stops trying and never ceases to amaze. He loves going to preschool and spending time with his brother Matthew who is six years old and great at teaching him new things. Ryan continues to amaze his family every single day and is truly an inspiration.

Following months of intense treatment at Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, the most recent MRI has revealed that Ryan’s tumor has continued to grow and he may not have much time remaining. The Children's Wish Foundation expedited a trip for the Carrington Family to DisneyWorld two weeks ago, where they were able to make many special memories. The recent and heart-breaking developments with Ryan's health have further fueled his family's sense of urgency to fulfill their son's final wishes. Their focus now is on trying to make Ryan as comfortable and happy as possible during this final stage of his battle with cancer.

Your generosity and support during their greatest time of need will be truly appreciated and forever remembered.

We encourage you to share this link with others who may be touched by Ryan's story and courage.
