This is the Tomeka Cormier cancer fund. The funds will be used for Tomeka's life saving surgery she needs.

I was diagnosed with cancer February 20, 2012, I am 46 years old. This was the most devastating news I could have ever received, but there is nothing I can do to change the diagnosis, so now I am fighting for my life.

My doctor sent a referral to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Tx immediately after my diagnosis but to my horror I found out through them, that I am what is called "Under-insured". This being the case I am not able to receive the life saving surgery I need to start my fight with cancer. Not only am I under-insured, other medical facilities I contacted referred to me as a "self pay patient" which is impossible.

I have always worked and had adequate medical insurance with my employers, but at my sickest, I am left without recourse. I have researched and reached out to every agency and facility I was made aware of but to no avail. It is with a heavy heart and no other alternatives that I am humbly asking for help.

This is something I never thought I would have to do, rely on the kindness of others, but in order to have a fighting chance this is necessary; one never know what changes life will bring. Someone asked me what was my biggest fear, I explained to her that I am living it. My brother passed away at the age of 36 from colon cancer and I have been fearful of that same fate. My desire is to live and become elderly but without medical treatment my chances are slim to none. I am asking for financial assistance in order to have a fighting chance. Estimated cost is $40 thousand dollars this is for ct scans, mri's, surgery and chemotherapy. If you are not able to donate monetarily I completely understand but please, feel free to pray for me and/or possibly contribute any information regarding potential assistance I am able to seek out.

Thank you all for your kindness.
