Friends of the Sperling family are uniting to raise money to help Auston fight cancer. Please help support us in this cause.

Please join us in a swim for a great cause. We will be swimming the Alcatraz swim in May. It is a 1.5 mile swim and quite a challenge, but nothing compared to what Auston Sperling is facing. He is an amazing boy who has been given the difficult challenge of fighting cancer. The goal of this web page is to help raise donations to support Auston and his family. We would like to raise $100 for every tenth of a mile swam. Please join us in the Alcatraz swim on Monday, May 28th in the San Francisco Bay to help raise funds for the Sperling family. If you would prefer to skip the swim, but would like to support this cause please feel free to donate using this site. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. If you would prefer to save on the processing fee, you can send checks to:

Here is a little bit of information about Auston and his journey so far:

Auston is a 6 year old boy who is fighting cancer and has recently undergone two brain surgeries. His diagnosis was alarming and unexpected. Within two weeks of his diagnosis he was transferred from Children's Hospital in Fresno, California to Saint Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He is currently part of a case study with Dr. Gajjar, the Director of Neuro-Oncology at St. Jude's. Dr. Gajjar has spent his entire career researching a handful of brain cancers --one of which is the medullablastoma which Auston has. Gajjar has been able to get CURE rates to 80-85% in the standard risk group, which is where Auston currently falls. The small community of Kingsburg has been very supportive in helping to raise funds for Auston and his family. Team Auston is created in efforts to help alleviate some of the financial stress this family is encountering. The parents, Jill and Dustin, now find themselves in a fast pace life of multiple plane trips and frequent changes in living arrangements. In the midst of all this they also are trying to keep things very stable for the youngest sibling, Avery who is three. Auston recently celebrated his seventh birthday early before leaving for Memphis, which included a visit from the local fire department. His trip to Memphis was his first plane ride. As exciting as this new plane ride maybe, the rush for the best medical treatment and celebrating his birthday early, it is a reminder that the Sperling's lifestyle with be anything but normal during the next few months. Supporting this family will provide more opportunities for Auston and his family, as well as alleviate some of the financial burdens they are facing.

Update 3/13/12
Auston has had another challenging event. He under went a lumbar puncture the other day and the pathology report came back positive showing cancer in the spinal fluid. Auston will now be in the high risk radiation category. Family and friends are still hopeful that he can win this battle, as he is in the best of hands.
