Support Mike's heart transplant fund and help defray the costs of his ongoing, very expensive medical care.

My husband, Mike, had a heart transplant 22 years ago after having 3 prior heart surgeries to either replace or repair his damaged heart valves after contracting rheumatic fever twice as a child.. He had his first heart surgery at 22, and finally at age 39 his heart could no longer do it's job. He was on the transplant waiting list for 6 months before we got the "call." Gettting that call is joyous and yet very sad at the same time because you know someone else had to lose their loved one to give you a chance at life. It's a very bittersweet moment and one that a lot of families struggle with. We have amassed a mountain of medical bills to the hospitals, physicians, special tests and the exorbitant cost of his immunosuppressant medications - even with insurance. I lost my job 3 months ago so we are really struggling. It was a well paying job with good benefits. I've just started a new position where my pay has been cut almost 50% and the health insurance coverage is awful. We have been very, very blessed with this gift of life, but as time marches on Mike is starting to develop some serious side effects from being on long term anti suppressants and requires constant physician consultations so they cab keep an eye on things. His kidneys are starting to fail which is very scary. Mike has never said one time "why me." He just deals with the cards he's been given by staying positive, spending lots of time with our children and grandchildren, and putting his faith in the Lord. He is the strongest man I know and I'd really love to see him not pouring over bills every single day with worry written all over his face as to how we are going to make ends meet. His "new" heart came from a Wisconsin lumberjack who was fatally injured in a logging accident just after the new year in 1990. His name was Daniel and I pray for him and his family every night thanking them for the beautiful, unselfish gift of life they gave to Mike. There are no words to adequately express the mixed emotions involved in transplantation. Sign up to be an organ donor - it's the greatest gift one selfless person can give to another. God bless you all and keep you safe.
