Miriam is raising money to help with the surgery costs to resolve her gross breast disfigurement/asymmetry and gynecomastia.

Since the age of 13, I have battled the humiliation, embarrassment and shame that has been brought on by having extremely large, asymmetric sized breasts. In middle school, I was teased and taunted for my obvious malformation. Throughout high school I did all I could to hide my body. As a young adult, intimate relationships are a source of discomfort, even though I am in a serious relationship. Even underneath clothing, my deformity is obvious. The obvious difference between the sizes is nothing short of obnoxious.

I have tried many different ways to hide and resolve the issue, including specialty made bras and silicone bra inserts. Not only are they asymmetric, but they are also very very large. The medical term is 'gynecomastia'. Doctors and plastic surgeons have described my predicament as 'breast deformity' and as a 'gross disfigurement'.

To give you a visual, one breasts is a full 36H and the other is a 36DD. That is a 4 cup size difference. You can only imagine how this has had a negative influence on almost every aspect of my life, not only because of the size, but also the asymmetry.

I have seen plastic surgeons about my case. Many people think that health insurance will easily cover the costs to solve this issue. However, because of the asymmetry, the total amount of 'grams' to be removed is not enough to grant me coverage. I have battled through appeals for the past year, and am giving up the fight.

I recently graduated from college and have gotten a job as an elementary school teacher. I love my job and am blessed to have the opportunity to have a positive influence in children's lives. Unfortunately...my salary is not enough to cover this kind of expense. The money that I am trying to raise is one half of the cost of the surgery, and I am saving to supply the other half.

I realize that this is surgery will not make the difference between 'life' or 'death' for me. In what is supposed to be the prime of my life, this surgery will grant me the normalcy and quality of life that I have wished for for the past 12 years.

Due to the personal nature of this matter, I have not included any pictures of the deformity. Because of my career, I am not advertising my cause too publicly.

I am so grateful for any support that can be afforded to me. My heart and prayers go out to all the families and individuals that are struggling to afford their own medical costs.
