Donate to Shannon's fundraising efforts for the Fordham University Global Outreach trip to Ecuador!

Dear friends and family,

As you know, this is my last year as a graduate student at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, and I have been blessed to have such a wonderful college experience. In my last semester here, I am excited to have been chosen to chaperone a Global Outreach project to Ecuador over spring break, March 11-18, 2012. Global Outreach (GO) is an organization at Fordham that organizes volunteer groups of about 12 people to stay for at least a week in various cities across the country and the world, engaging in numerous social justice issues. GO projects allow students to learn the stories of individuals around the world, many of whom are poor and marginalized, and provides me with a means by which to connect my education with action.

While in Ecuador, our team of 10 students, one student leader, and my co-chaperone will be working with the organization called Rostro de Cristo. Rostro de Cristo is an organization that brings volunteers groups from the U.S. to stay with them throughout the year, bringing them to neighbor visits, schools, and hospitals. Rostro de Cristo focuses on living in solidarity with the poor—rather than acting for the poor, it is important to act with them. Our group will live, cook, clean, and engage with the community to learn their stories. After we come back from Ecuador, we will continue to have team meetings to process and discuss our experience and hold an educational event on campus to share our experiences with the rest of the Fordham community. Perhaps the most important aspect of this project is sharing the stories and bringing awareness to the social justice issues we have learned about. For more information on Rostro de Cristo, check out their website: www.rostrodecristo.org

As a chaperone, I have to fundraise $1200 for my individual cost to go on the project, and individual donations from friends and family constitute almost 90% of fundraising efforts. I am hoping that this fundraising website will make it easy and quick for you to donate to this project. Donations of any amount (really, any amount-- $5, $10, etc.) in support of this project would be greatly appreciated! If you would prefer to mail a check, please contact me.

Please pass this along to any friends, family, or colleagues you think would be interested in donating. I am so excited about this opportunity, and it is all possible because of your amazing support!

Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page. I'm looking forward to sharing my Ecuador stories with you.

Best wishes,

Shannon
