37 yr old Mother of two with Neuroendocrine Small Cell colon Cancer in Streamwood, IL

Kristina Gabbard was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Small Cell cancer in August 2011 at the age of 36 just weeks before her 37th birthday in September. When she was first diagnosed she was in Stage 3 Colon cancer and had 1 1/2 feet of her intestines removed to remove a large mass. Unfortuneatly she has recently moved to stage 4 because the cancer has moved to her liver. Neuroendocrine cancer is very aggressive and little is known regarding putting the cancer into remission since so very few people have been diagnosed with it. The chemotherapy that has already been started for her is very aggressive and takes practically all her energy. She has been forced to stop working and isn't able to file for disability, other than temporary disability which is only available for 12 weeks. Chemotherapy will be for 6-8 months and in order to continue with her care she has to pay for cobra insurance, which is very expensive. The chemotherapy won't cure the cancer but it will slow down the growth of of it. She will continue to go have cancer and eventually go back on chemo as this cancer has a tendency to show up elsewhere in the body. Kristina now resides with her mother and father in Streamwood because she can't afford her own living expenses. The money donated to this site will help greatly towards payment of Cobra insurance, bills not paid in full by Cobra for hospital stays at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion during chemotherapy, medical prescriptions, travel expenses and for copays to Doctors. She has two children ages 15 and 16 whom she must provide for as well and would appreciate any assistance that you can provide. We are not asking for a great amount but just enough to make every thing a little easier for her.
