Ryan Robertson has devoted much of his life to helping others, and now we have an opportunity to give back.

The goal is to raise $3,000 by climbing for cash, one route for every $10 raised, to help pay Ryan’s medical expenses.

Ryan is one of many unsung heroes who has devoted his life to helping others. As a 3rd grade teacher in Durham NC, Ryan makes a difference in the lives of all the kids who enter his classroom. As an accomplished rock climber and distance runner, Ryan is a role model for health and fitness. Whether he is sandbagging a flooding river to help strangers save their livelihood, or advocating for students in his school, Ryan lives a life of selfless service to his community. He has saved my life more times than I can count by preventing me from hitting the ground every time I fall off a route. In April, Ryan was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, a type of brain tumor that grows around the acoustic nerve. On May 21st, Dr. Friedman at Duke University Hospital surgically removed the tumor. But Ryan’s journey through this episode is not over yet. He has lost hearing in his left ear. His out-of-pocket expenses are expected to be $3,000 after insurance. With several weeks of recovery ahead of him, we can help him focus on healing by taking care of the financial burden associated with his medical care. I’m calling on climbers to help me climb one route for every $10 raised. We will start climbing on June 26th and keep climbing every day until we’ve finished. I plan to climb my routes at the Vertical Edge Climbing Center in Durham. You may climb your routes anywhere, but if you’re in the triangle please come join us at VECC on June 26th and each day until we’re done. Please make a contribution to help us achieve our goal of $3,000 and spread the word to family and friends to gain support for this effort. If you would like to support us by climbing, please contact me by email to coordinate (ryanrandolph@msn.com). Whether you give money, climb routes, or help spread the word, all your contributions are greatly appreciated!
