Honoring a True Hero

Hero - Someone with heroic qualities who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, displays courage and the will for self sacrifice for the greater good of humanity.

We all have a way of perceiving one another. For many, that perception persuades our minds into formulating inaccurate assumptions about each other, causing us to lose sight of the reality and genuine nature of an individual’s character. However, that same perception can also lead us to express opinions that accurately exemplify one’s true disposition. When speaking of our great friend Ken Adamo, perception and reality align seamlessly.

On Tuesday December 28th, Ken Adamo, a heroic paradigm, passed peacefully in his sleep at the young age of 48. Although his death was untimely and leaves us with a sense of injustice, he led a complete and fulfilling life. Ken, a hardworking husband, father, and friend, was deeply devoted to his wife and children. He was a distinguished member of both the Garfield and Elmwood Park Fire Departments. Over the years, his accomplishments would earn him ranks of both Captain and Lieutenant. Ken truly believed that if you worked hard, treated people kindly, and with a little help from the man upstairs, you would have a virtuous, enjoyable life.

The loss of a supporting husband and father is a difficult incident to endure. Although, after spending time with this family, it is evident that Ken’s strengths are instilled in his loving wife Donna and two beautiful daughters, Nicole and Ali. It is those strengths that will see them through this emotionally demanding time. His strong sense of family values and many years of positive influential examples as a father will undoubtedly carry on through his daughters. All of us that knew Kenny will continue to speak of him often, and his achievements and sacrifices will be in our minds forever.

As his closest friends, it is our time to rise to the occasion and help alleviate some of the financial stress incurred to the family. Whatever you are able to give is greatly appreciated. The site requires us to set a goal, but the true goal is for us to help as much as possible. For some that may be financially, for others it could be just words of encouragement.
