This is a donation fund for Dyna. She is more than a dog - she is a family member. And at only 5 years old, she needs her hips replaced.

Hi all, thanks for reading this. I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness from friends and strangers alike.

I am hoping that all of my good dog karma might come back around now. For all the dogs whose lives I've saved through rescue, and for all the families who now enjoy those dogs... I believe karma is real.

Dyna (aka "lemon dog") was just diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. She needs surgery on both hips. When she was hit by a car in a tragic accident 5 years ago, I spent $6,000 to fix her leg. Now it will cost me another $7,500 to replace her hips. At her age and size, this is the only option that is guaranteed to give her a pain-free life. And, of course, her veterinary insurance does not cover any portion of this procedure.

Some of you know Dyna personally. She is a sweet, loving, and stubborn 5-year-old blue heeler/GSP mix. She loves to cuddle, play fetch, wrestle with her dog brother, and she used to "mush" my bicycle for miles before all of this happened to her (she even knows the dog-sledding commands for turning and stopping).

And yes, she is a "lemon". She had her front leg reconstructed as a pup due to an accident. Then she developed horrible allergies, forcing me to cook her delicious homemade food. Then she got osteoarthritis (we found out this is because of her hips, and should be alleviated with hip surgery). And now this. My poor sweet little dog.

Despite everything I put into her, I get much more back. She has been by my side through very hard times, and she does not deserve such suffering at this young age. Nobody does. Especially not a dog who loves so unconditionally, and teaches her human so much about life, love, forgiveness and acceptance. Anybody who has ever loved a dog knows this.

There is never a good time for such an expense, for sure. With the horrible economy, my return to college, our home purchase, and my own medical expenses... I know, I know. Boohoo. I'll try not to bust out the violin. Ha.

Thank you all again so much for your kindness. I know times are hard for everyone. And even if you cannot afford to help financially, please consider passing along the link to other dog lovers, or posting the link on your Facebook page.
