The family of our little kitten Jimmy Stewart is hoping to fund much-needed eye surgery for him.

Jimmy Stewart (our kitten) was born March 23rd, 2012. He enjoys "cat tuna" from Trader Joe's, playing with plastic forks and sitting on the edge of the tub during showers. He's also been known to climb the coat rack and carry his green stuffed owl around in his mouth. Jimmy was part of a litter we were attempting to find homes for, but the home we found for him backed out at the last minute after finding out he needed surgery. Jimmy just turned five months old and in mid-July we found out he has congenital cataracts. He is already down to about 50% vision and the specialist estimated he would likely completely lose his vision within a year. The same vet told us that cataract surgery in cats has over a 90% success rate, and we sincerely believe Jimmy will be much happier as we move around over the next few years if he can see to adjust to his new homes. The vet in New York city estimated his surgery would cost about $5000-5500 for both eyes, but fortunately we have now partnered with "Calvin's Paws" (a rescue organization in Raleigh, North Carolina) and they will do it for $2050. We have revised our donation goal to reflect this new program and the rental car/gas to drive there. Our new total is only $2633, which includes the 7% commission giveforward.com charges for their services. We have already paid for diagnostic vet visits and eye drops, but any extra funds accrued here (which will be very little, if any) will be donated to the Humane Society. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at all. We would much rather answer millions of questions than lose even one well-intentioned dollar. Thank you SO much for considering donating to Jimmy's eye surgery. Had he been an older cat it would be a different story, but we intend to help him live a very long and healthy life, and he deserves to see it (and to keep watching bird videos on YouTube!) Thank you so much, Beth Diesch Alex Brouillet Jimmy Stewart (The kitten... although being a philanthropist perhaps the real Mr. Stewart would have been on board as well!) ead403@nyu.edu   **We have also received checks in the amount of $50. We will end the fundraiser early when the check amounts make up the difference to our goal**
