Matt is 25 and fighting a rare aggressive cancer, pleuropulmonary blastoma. Donations will be used for Matt’s medical and travel expenses.

Matt is 25 years old and is an animator. He has worked at studios in Nashville, Orlando, San Diego and Vancouver. Matt is a believer in the Lord and worships at Westside Church while in Vancouver and Mission Church while in Illinois. He loves finding great restaurants, board games, video games, spikeball, good jokes, laughing and hanging with friends and family, brothers Michael and Adam and sister Ashley.

From January to May 2015, Matt had been dealing with a cough that would come and go. On Friday May 8th, 2015 Matt woke up with difficult breathing and severe pain in his chest. His brothers took him to the emergency room and an x-ray and CT scan revealed that Matt had a large mass in his right lung. He went to the ER hoping for antibiotics for not feeling well and left being told he most likely had cancer. As he was only 24 with no history of smoking, this was rare. After an initial biopsy, he was told a week later that the tumor was a high grade, rare and aggressive form of cancer. After a second biopsy at Mayo Clinic, in June 2015 he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. In June 2016, after extensive testing on the tumor removed during surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, the diagnosis was changed to pleuropulmonary blastoma.

Matt has many expenses for medical and travel. From June 1, 2015-April 1, 2016 Matt was travelling between Chicagoland and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He moved to Mayo Clinic in September/October for 6 weeks for proton radiation therapy. As of April 2016 Matt is now being treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Matt had an extensive surgery May 25th 2016 that required the removal of 2/3 of his right lung and  4 partial ribs. The surgeon was able to remove 98% of his tumor. Matt will need to stay in NYC for several months to recover from surgery and begin treatment for the remaining cancer. He will then need to travel monthly for several days to NYC for treatment. To pursue treatment Matt had to stop working and in addition to the cost of his treatment he still has his student loans that have to be repaid.

Thank you for the outpouring of love and support for Matt. Many people have asked how they can help Matt and his family. This page will have updates on both needs and prayer requests, and is a place where people can donate financially.

We are asking for your support with two specific requests:

  • First, please pray for Matt. Our God is the greatest healer and his name is Jehovah-Rapha (The Lord That Heals). Pray for Matt to be swiftly and completely healed of this aggressive cancer.
  • Second, please consider donating. The funds donated will be used to cover Matt’s costs for the tests, treatment, travel and medication to cure him.
