NFHS Blazin' Silkz Color Guard Fund. We are asking for assistance in raising funds to purchase uniforms, equipment, and travel expenses.

NFHS is located in a predominantly black community where the students are not always able to do the things other more affluent school districts are able to. In my role as coach and sponsor of these squads I take my duty seriously. It is with this in mind that I implore you to assist me in purchasing uniforms and new flag poles. I have several students that come from low-income or single parent families. These students have the passion and the skill however their parents are not able to afford for them to participate. I personally do what I can but sadly it is not enough. I am asking that you help me to help these kids. This program gives them something positive to look forward to and gives them something to work hard toward. We get little to no assistance from the school district or band itself. I can't tell you how many countless times I've not eaten so that one of my girls could. The band has several trips scheduled for this year and I want each of my girls to be able to participate. I believe that “It still takes a village to raise a child”.

Colorguard is a competitive dance theater using props along with dance as a visual expression of the music performed by either a marching band or pre-recorded. Colorguard is both an athletic competition and a form of art that mixes modern dance and ballet and uses props traditionally including rifles, flags and sabres.

The North Forest Color Guard, directed by Ms. Gretchen Shelton, competes with the marching band from August through March, using choreography and equipment to enhance the visual effect of the marching band show. The colorguard is judged both as part of the overall visual appeal of the show as well as in its own category.
