On March 3, 2012 I will leave to spend over week in Tanzania with my friend Ashley Burdette working in a children's orphanage.

Affected by extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, along with the lack of opportunities for self-improvement, hundreds of orphan children leave their villages in search of new lives, new beginnings, hope, and other positive possibilities.

Unfortunately, the lives of many of these children further suffer over-exposure and exploitation in these fast-paced cities.

While in Tanzania we will

- Teach English in orphanages and/or schools
- Help children with sanitation issues such as brushing teeth, showering, and establishing and maintaining personal hygiene
- Organize games, drawing lessons, singing sessions, dancing, and other creative, educational and extracurricular activities
- Help with homework; monitoring academic progress, and ensuring children complete their next day's homework
- Child care services for orphans who can not go to school (i.e. games, singing, praying, etc.)
- Skill-training for the children who cannot go school (due to being over-age)
- Help in food distribution, kitchen work/duties, garden maintenance

I am excited to share this journey together with not only my friend who will be traveling with me, but also with you. One way we can share this together is in prayer. We will need your continued prayers that God will prepare us for this trip and keep us safe as we travel to Tanzania. We also need prayers that our financial needs will be met. At this time we need to raise $3,000 each for this trip, and you can imagine how difficult that will be!

Another way you can share this experience together with us is by helping provide financial support. We need to raise a total of $6,000 by January 2, 2012. In lieu of birthday and Christmas gifts this year, I would love to see your support of our trip to Tanzania. Any gift, no matter how big or how small is equally and greatly appreciated.

I look forward to helping improve the lives of several Tanzanian children and letting you all know about our accomplishments when we return. As a token of my appreciation for your support, Ashley and I plan to put together a narrated DVD of photos and videos sharing our experience with you.
