Denby High School, located in inner city Detroit, is seeking support in funding a life changing outside of classroom experience.

Michigan Youth in Government is a program that brings in almost 2,000 high school students from all over Michigan to debate bills and participate in mock trials at a 5-day conference in Lansing every year in March. At this conference, students participate as youth legislators, write bills, and then debate them on the House and Senate chambers of the Michigan Capitol. Students also participate in mock trials as youth attorneys, where they argue a court case in front of a panel of jurors. The conference teaches students essential skills such as public speaking and writing, enriches their understanding of government and policy, and grows them as citizens through knowledge and dialogue.

This year, Denby High School is planning on sending 40 students to the Michigan Youth in Government conference. These students, chosen from our Student Government and Teen Court classes, were selected because of their academic performance, civic participation and desire to better their communities. However, as a school with 100% of students on a free or reduced lunch, and heavily reliant on Title I funding, we need corporate partners and sponsors to make this conference a reality for our students.
