Please help us give Thomas a great start to learning and communicating with an iPad!

Thomas is a happy and extremely active little boy, and his favorite TV shows include Wow Wow Wubbzy, Nihao Kai Lan, Thomas the Train, and Team Umi Zoomi. He loves to spin his toys and circles and anything he can find that is round. Sometimes he also spins himself in circles! He also likes to throw his toys onto non-carpet floors to hear the sound it makes...then he'll spin them too!

Our two year old son Thomas is autistic, and was diagnosed in August 2011 at age 21 months. He has been receiving Early Intervention services since June of this year, and ABA therapy began in September. While he has some language, it is not functional language (he usually just imitates what he hears, however this is not always consistent either). He does not even call his mother "mama." We've recently moved, and his therapies have switched around a bit. He receives Special Instruction, Speech, and OT. He was approved to receive Physical Therapy, and this will start soon.

We did not give any consideration to getting him an iPad until the day one of his ABA therapists brought one over. He was immediately engaged! He is also interested in his grandmother's touchscreen smart phone, but it has such a tiny screen. He needs something for himself.

Some of the areas that Thomas therapists work with him with are: pointing, speech, matching, and following directions. There are many apps out there that could help him in these areas and he could enjoy himself at the same time.

We set the goal at $1070 so that we may purchase a 32GB iPad 2, put a two year accidental service plan on it, get a few accessories, cover givefoward's fees...and whatever is leftover will be used to purchase and download apps to help Thomas.

If we were in a financial position to do this ourselves, we would do so without hesitation. But our family is slowly recovering from the economy. We are donating every spare bit we can do his fundraiser though!

We have uploaded a video showing Thomas being himself, in which he is displaying the one autistic behavior of hand-flapping. But you can see that he is a happy child. We, his parents, just want to be able to start communicating with him.

Thank you for your donation.

Sincerely,

Michelle and Jason Harvey
