Let's show Izzy some Love!
This campaign is to help raise funds to offset non-covered medical and other out of pocket expenses for Izzy and her family.
Little Izzy Mae Sanchez was born on December 19 2011 to Joe and Carrie Sanchez. In just a short time after her birth on February 16th 2012, Baby Izzy was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. This is a very rare liver disease; there are only 250-400 new cases of this disease in the US every year.
Biliary atresia occurs when the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not develop normally. It is not known why the biliary system fails to develop normally.
The bile ducts help remove waste from the liver and carry salts that help the small intestine break down (digest) fat.
In babies with biliary atresia, bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This can lead to liver damage and cirrhosis of the liver, which is deadly if not treated.
For 6 months Izzy has been in and out of the hospital but recently her disease has progressed. Her kidneys are shutting down, resulting in ammonia buildup that can lead to brain damage. They have introduced other IV meds to help process the waste toxins so she will have to stay in the hospital until she gets a liver transplant.
Joe and Carrie have been so positive throughout this whole experience and we want to help ease some of their worries.
Many of you know the Joe and Carrie and many of you may not, but know this.....no matter how you can help, your contribution will help ease the burden for this wonderful family.
