Donations to the "Give For Olivia" fund to will be used to cover the medical expenses of a special needs Pug named Olivia.

"Hi everyone! My name is Olivia and I am am a female Pug mix, approximately 7 months old. I was brought to the Terrell Animal Adoption Center on June 7, 2012 after an angel found me wandering the streets... abandoned, neglected and knew I was in desparate need of help. Not only was I severely emaciated and malnutritioned, but I had sustained a severe injury to my back left leg that went untreated for quite some time which caused the bottom part of my leg and paw to rot. Another angel took me to Dr. New at Terrell Veterinary Center where I was put on antibiotics and pain medication which I was very thankful for. I have been in pain for so long, it was nice to have some relief. Once the antibiotics had a chance to get in my system, I had my leg amputation done on June 11. Since then, my foster mom and dad have been taking care of me and helping me recover. I love to cuddle with my foster dad."

As Olivia's foster mom, I have had the priviledge of caring for this little girl after her surgery. We have worked diligently to help Olivia gain weight and exercise a little at a time. Our concerns grew as Olivia became more and more lethargic, wanting to sleep all day long. We knew that her progress was being hindered by something else other than just getting aquainted with only having three legs. She has been put on a 2 week round of antibiotics and NutriCal to help get her energy level up. Her prescription diet along with probiotics and additional medications should help in her treatment. Once she finishes her antibiotics, she will need to have a full blood panel done to determine what issues she has going on in that little body of hers. Our hopes are that her organs have not been affected, but what we do know is that she already had some major metabolic issues that cause her to be weak and wobble her head and body constantly, as well as having gastrointestinal issues. The sad truth about her leg injury was that it appeared to be intentional, and for the life of me I will never understand why someone would want to hurt this precious little girl. Despite all that she has already been through, she has such a loving nature, always excited to meet new people and enjoys being in the company of other small dogs. She is the best snuggler and is perfectly content to be held in your arms all day. Olivia has a huge appetite and will gladly accept all the treats you are willing to give her. We absolutely love her!

Since the beginning of this fundraiser, Olivia has been diagnosed with a liver shunt which will require surgery. She had also started showing severe symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy. I post continual updates on her lastest condition, and try to give detailed information in those updates as well.

It is my mission to ensure that Olivia continues to receive the medical care that she so desparately needs and deserves. She has already been through so much as a puppy, and still has a long road ahead of her. I want to ensure that she will have a bright and healthy future. With the support and care of Terrell Animal Adoption Center, Terrell Animal Alliance, Dr New, our volunteers and community, we have gotten Olivia this far on the road to recovery. Right now we need your help! Any amount that you can donate will make a huge difference in her care and saving her life.

Olivia is only one of many dogs with special needs that the Terrell Animal Alliance is on a mission to help rehabilitate and then find a loving forever home for her. In the event that there are any unused funds remaining from this donation drive, the remaining amount will be donated to Terrell Animal Alliance to aid in the care of other special needs dogs like Olivia. Terrell's "No Kill" journey could not be made possible without the support of Terrell Animal Alliance (TAA), Dr New and the rest of his staff at Terrell Veterinary Center, our volunteers and help from the community.

We will continue to pray for Olivia everyday! She has such a strong spirit and I have faith that she will one day be able to live a normal life with a loving family who is dedicated to her care. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Thank you for allowing me to share her story with you and please keep Olivia in your thoughts and prayers. I will continue to give updates of her progess.
