Helping Hands at McMaster University is fundraising for Jose Javier Zapata, a man afflicted with severe lipoma of the skin.

Helping Hands is a student-run organization at McMaster University that aims to raise funds for individual patients in Central America that are unable to afford treatment for their medical conditions. This initiative was inspired by a medical volunteer trip to Costa Rica in February 2010 with VIDA, a non-profit humanitarian organization that offers free medical and dental assistance to poor communities in Central America. Helping Hands is currently fundraising for the medical expenses of Jose Javier Zapata, a construction worker in his mid 40's living in Barios, San Jose, Costa Rica who has been suffering severe lipoma of the skin for years. Unfortunately, Jose lives in an impoverished community with limited access to nutrition, sanitation, and primary health care and cannot afford treatment for his painful, chronic condition. Please help him to overcome this illness and to have a chance at an improved quality of life. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
