The family & friends of Lillian are uniting to raise money for medical and living expences to help Lillian walk & Dance again!
Lillian Marie Pattenaude was a normal, healthy, energetic, fun loving girl until tragedy struck. On January 3, 2012, Lilli’s hip suddenly and unexplainably broke. Lilli had suffered a SCFE (Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis). Not only did her hip break, but the ball of the femur connected to the growth plate had broken completely off. Lilli was rushed to Gainesville, where Doctors performed emergency surgery, placing two pins in her hip to hold it together. On March 2nd, .Lilli had a follow-up visit with her Doctor with the results coming back March 7th. The results were not good. The bone around the pins had deteriorated and the femur head had broken loose and dropped. Lilli was sent to the Children’s Hospital in Orlando on March 15th. A team of Doctors performed a left hip dislocation – modified Dunn Osteotomy and revision of screw fixation. They removed the femur, took out the dead bone, scraped the remaining bone and replaced it using five pins and screws. The main concern was for restored blood flow. On March 19th, a follow-up bone scan proved our worst fears. There is no blood flow. The bone was dead. When the bone is dead, the white blood cells absorb it, causing it to collapse. However, blood vessels can regrow and restore themselves, given the time and place to grow into. We need to preserve that bone!
An Endocrinologist has been consulted and scheduled to start high dose infusions similar to chemo treatments which targets the white blood cells around the bone to destroy the cells before they can absorb the bone. The hope is this will give the blood vessels time to regrow into the bone. Lilli will be wheelchair bound for at least the next year while she goes through these treatments with the hope of walking soon after. Lilli and her parents will be making many trips to Orlando for the infusion treatments, therapy and check-ups. This will require hospital stays to monitor for side effects of the treatments. Lilli will also go through a battery of genetic testing to try and find out what, if any, bone disease has caused this. The Doctor’s will be keeping a very close watch on her right hip as well.
Jamie (Lilli’s mother) is no stranger to caring for the disabled. Todd (Lilli’s father) is disabled with a health condition that continues worsen, and the Doctors are no longer able to stop the deterioration of his health. Some days Todd does very well on his own, other days, he need complete assistance. Jamie has spent the last few years caring for Todd while raising her 3 children. Now she is faced with the challenge of caring for 2 disabled loved ones.
The goal is have Lilli up and walking again so that she can dance in the rain.
Funds raised will be used for medical treatments and procedures, travel expenses, and other expenses not covered by insurance pertaining to Lilli’s ongoing care.
