Shawn is battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and was diagnosed July 6, 2010.

Shawn has Hodgkin/non-Hodgkin's disease 3 times (1998, 1999, and 2002). In 2002, he underwent a stem cell transplant to put the lymphoma into remission. His lymphoma is rare as it was hybrid, meaning he had both Hodgkins and non-Hodgkin's Diseases. The stem cell transplant was done using his own stem cells since his own bone marrow was still healthy and not invaded by the cancer. However, a side effect of all of the chemotherapy lead to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), which he was diagnosed with on July 6, 2010.

Being really sick, they started treatment very quickly as this is a very aggressive leukemia, so treatment started July 8th. Shawn's government job does not offer any type of disability, and he will be unable to work for about a year and a half after the transplant. Shawn is still fighting to get into remission now, but will have to undergo another bone marrow transplant from a donor. Any donations will graciously be accepted and used to help maintain our health insurance premiums that we have to pay to his employer since he is not working so that we can continue to have medical insurance and care, as well as used to help pay for costly medical expenses that the insurance does not cover.
