This is the Rebecca's Ruiz lymphatic surgery fund. The funds will be used for Rebecca's medical costs and related expenses.

My name is Rebecca and I'm an spanish girl aged 28. Since 2007 i suffer a medical condition in my left leg, called lymphedema which is a notoriously debilitating progressive condition. Lymphedema is a linfatic condition caused by a blockage in the lymphatic system and affects also to the inmune and circulatory systems. The blockage prevents lymph fluid from draining well, and as the fluid builds up, the swelling continues. Lymphedema symptoms include: -Swelling of the leg -Hardening and thickening of the skin (fibrosis) -Feeling of heaviness/tightness in the leg -Aching or discomfort (pains in the joints: ankle) -Decreased sensibility or movement in the limb. -Redness and increased warmth -Recurring (and dangerous) infections in the affected limb (Even a minor injury to the skin, such as a cut, scratch or insect bite can cause severe infection, which physicians call lymphangitis) - Intolerance to heat (climatic in summer, saunas, baths...) - Difficulty to find shoes and clothes which fit properly. - More limited daily lifestyle (problems travelling due to the plane pressure for example) and a reduced working capability ( i cant work standing as years before) -Daily self-management of lymphedema also requires a certain self discipline. All this symptons tend to increase with the years, and can turn in extreme swelling (elephantiasis) that can make it impossible to use the affected limb. Until now, the only existing treatments were palliative and very expensive and not covered totally (in Spain) by our social system. This treatments are bandages, lymphatic drainage weekly, and compression stockings made to measure in ortophedics. Thanks to the advacement of science, now there is a surgery technique called microsurgical lymphatic-venous anastomosis, which can improve the condition until 80%. I'm suitable for doing this surgery and improving my quality of life. There are only a few surgeons in the world who practice this microsurgery technique. The surgery costs 25.000 euros (about 32.400 $). I'm without job due to the critical economic crisis situation in Spain, and my incomes arent enough to pay the surgery. The doctor said that i need to do this surgery as soon as possible, because as time passes the improvement rate opportunities of success are less (%), because the condition becomes more fibrotic and stopple the only 2 or 3 lymphatic cannals which are suitable in my case. So i will need to do this surgery as soon as possible. I dont like to live the rest of my life with this frustrating and limitating condition knowing that i have real possibilities of improvement with this surgery. I appreciate any economic contribution you gan give me. If for some reasons you cant donate, help me to share this page in your facebook profile. God bless you abundantly. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Rebecca.
